the monday morning weigh in

Was the same as last week, finishing the month off at a shade under 14 stone.  December looms with its offerings of alcohol, turkey and lots of cheese and biscuits.  Worry not, you’ll still get the same weekly updates but don’t be too disappointed in me if I pile on the pounds from the 21st onwards!

an hourly update

Another Sunday morning and curry and beer induced feeling of discomfort in the morning.  Yesterday I went on the train up to Aberdeen again to watch the Aberdeen v Rangers match.  Courtesy of generous cousin and her husband, I got an invite into the corporate hospitality suite so as a result the drinking started around 11 in the morning.  The match itself was superb, Aberdeen in the first 20 minutes especially were exceptional and thoroughly deserved their 1-0 lead.  They managed to hold out until full time, despite one of the most one sided displays of refereeing I’ve ever witnessed.  12 v 10 but we still hung on!  To thank my lovely wife for allowing me out to play all day, I picked up a curry on the way home.  It seemed like a good idea at the time, and it was but it made me feel messy this morning.  Nothing to do with all the beer, and rum, and whisky!

So the run itself was uneventful, although at times I felt like I was running a steeplechase race fences, branches and muddy puddles had to be avoided.  An enthusiastic fan even beeped his horn about 37 times to get my attention, turns out it was my ‘running partner’ being lazy and driving somewhere.  Shocking behaviour for one supposedly training a marathon!  I last a full 60 minutes and covered 6 1/2 miles.  Averaging just over 9 minute miles, not bad considering the state of me!

‘Twas a rocky day music wise, Rage against the machine, Ash (2), Foo Fighters (2), The Breeders, Metallica and AC/DC.  The Charlatans, Blur and Wilco also made an appearance.

more friday night fun

Despite having a large urge to sit on my arse and drink beer, I decided to go out running.  It was a good run and it was quite eventful, well sort of.  In no particular order the excitement was:

  • Seeing the police lift some neds for drinking
  • Almost getting run over
  • Seeing a car broken down in Lidl

Not terribly exciting, even almost getting run over was a bit dull.  Some muppet decided to start driving as I was crossing the road, he stopped, I gesticulated and life carried on.  Marvin also tried to trip me up about 20 times as well.  The run went well, although I had a wee injury from last night’s football so until that eased off I was running a bit strangely.  I made sure to start out the run in some quiet streets.

I had my ipod tonight, hurrah.  We had some Alabama 3, Beck, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Bluetones and the Rocky theme tune, oh yeah!

keep the man running

“Finally” I hear you all cry, a blog post about running.  Today was the official start of my 6 month marathon training programme, everything before today has been about fun!  Growing weary of dark nights, wheelie bins and little of note to report on, I’ve opted to do my weekday runs during the day.  Today I set off from the office, along the harbour area and down the beach.  Boy was it windy, running along the beach away from the wind was a breeze (badoom-tish), the return leg was a lot little more like hard work.  I even got passed by saw some other runners, one of which was wearing the most horrendous fluorescent yellow running jacket.  Really, he looked like he was off to a 90s rave, all he needed was a whistle and a glowstick.  Despite running in a sprawling metropolis unfortunately nothing interesting happened, nothing interesting ever happens when I run, sorry!

I forgot my ipod so instead I’ll finish with a mini rant.  Now let me start by saying I absolutely love Christmas: crap TV, presents, loads of food and drink and, of course, booze.  However, putting my Christmas decorations in November is a step too far, and that’s exactly what has happened in our office.  So now from here until Christmas, and I’m sure into the new year, my eyeballs will be assaulted by the lovely purple and silver themed Christmas decorations we have.  Bah humbug!

the monday morning weigh in

Got stuck due to the bad weather, so we had a tuesday morning weigh in instead.  13 is supposedly an unlucky number but when two 13s popped up on the scales today I was very happy indeed!  Just goes to show you that sometimes you need a week of being ill, no exercise and slobbing around and you can shift some weight.  There’s hope for those couch potatoes out there!

As you probably guessed I had Sunday off, I have my stuff for a lunchtime run but yet again I forgot my watch and ipod.  Grrr.

another night off

So a Friday night in the house with fresh legs it was. I’m on the mend though and will be heading out tomorrow to sweat the rest of this illness away……hopefully.
