Friday on my Mind

Another Friday and another four miles, rather worryingly I’m starting to look forward to my running sessions.  I know, that can’t be a good sign!  I ventured to the brand new shopping centre in Aberdeen on Thursday to visit the Apple store and buy some headphones (and get a free t-shirt).  Well, there were 45000 people at the opening apparently and I’d guess that 44000 headed straight for the Apple store.  Aberdonians love free things!  Anyway, after pushing my way past the mob, I wandered to Argos and got some new headphones.  Squidgy ear ones they are, and only 6 quid.  Bargain!  See what I mean about Aberdonians liking a bargain.  The run itself was, as is the norm now, uneventful but I’m happy to report that the headphones work well.

Music wise it was a weird mix of songs that shouldn’t really work as running songs but somehow do, Dire Straits, Johnny Cash and The Beatles being those songs.  Alongside classic running tunes from Beck, the Top Gun soundtrack and Adam Ant, don’t drink, don’t smoke!

thank you, oh thank you

A thousand Eighteen times thank you.  Yesterday was the busiest day ever seen on this humble little blog, 18 of you decided to pay me a visit.  Keep up the good work readers.

Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting

Not really, just wanted a song title with Wednesday in it.  Anyway, since I stayed in with the good lady last night, I decided I’d head out for a run tonight.  Wednesday must be jogging night here, saw loads of folk out tonight whereas I only usually the odd other jogger.  The run itself was going well until one of my earphones decided to stop working after only about 5 minutes.  On I ran with music in my left ear and Marv’s panting in my right ear.  I felt really good tonight, not sure if its due to the extra rest day or the fact I knew I was only running for 30 minutes tonight.  Things seem to be coming together well, I feel fitter than I’ve ever felt before and it was a lovely mild night, perfect for running in.

Music wise I had a bit of Beck, Girls Aloud, the Top Gun soundtrack and a few Britpop tunes.  I’ll head to Argos tomorrow and get a new pair of headphones in preparation for my Friday night session.  Stay tuned pop-pickers.

dude, where’s your car?

It’s only in the blooming garage.  I had a night off the running tonight as the good lady went and had herself a little car accident today so going out for a run didn’t feature highly on my todo list.  She’s had a bump on her head and is a little shaken but thankfully both her and the little fella are fine.  As Cal so simply put it ‘the car is broken’, we’ll find out tomorrow just how bad the damage is.  Thankfully my work have been good enough to let me work from home, once I do the school run – minus the car obviously!

monday morning weigh in

Well proof, if proof was needed, that eating crap and drinking too  much beer is bad for you.  14 stone 5 this fine morning, so an increase of 3 pounds in a week.  Ah well, at least we have no more curry days lined up for a while so hopefully November can see me get below 14 stone for the first time in a long, long time.

sunday morning

and I’m falling running.  As I missed my Friday night running session, opting instead to drink beer, watch bands and then eat chicken pakora, I decided to go for a long run today.  So on this wet and windy morning, I wrapped up warm and heading out.  Once again my Saturday night preparations for this run had included more beer, more pakora and a curry, when will I learn?  So off I set, up hill, running into the wind and feeling generally crap. But on I ran, for just under 5.5 miles in, what I feel is a very respectable, 49 minutes.  So just a shade up 9 minutes per mile, which isn’t too shabby in my humble opinion.  Rather worryingly my left foot started going numb after about 35 minutes but on I ran until I got home, took my shoe off and found a delightful looking blister on the underside of my heel.  I look forward to popping that bad boy!

Music wise I don’t remember all the tunes, I do remember Girls Aloud being followed by Alice in Chains which was interesting to say the least.  Cast, Soundgarden, Belle & Sebastian, Oasis and Ash all made an appearance too and once again I took full advantage of running in the country by shouting singing along to most of the songs.  Monday morning weigh in tomorrow, I’ve got a sneaky feeling that all the beer and pakora might not have been too good for my weight loss plan!

well that was easy

Here’s a startling discovery, not running on a cold, wet and windy Tuesday night is so much better than running on a cold, wet and windy Tuesday night.  I was ill today so decided the best thing would be to have a quiet night in the house, and quiet it has been.  Grandma and Gramps came over to pick up the big fella, leaving me, the mrs and CB at home.  Instead of running, myself and CB sat and watched Toy Story 2, great fun although I did resist the urge to bust open a back of popcorn.  I’ve got a gig (watching, not playing) on Friday night so this week could go down as a ‘lets not burn out too soon’ week, and I for one welcome a rest filled week!

Of course, I don’t have exciting news about what music I listened to, however, I do urge you all to buy the Kings of Convenience’s new album, it’s a topper.
